South Korea, the United States, and Japan have reiterated their dedication to upholding a formidable deterrent stance against North Korea, while also seeking to bolster trilateral cooperation on matters of regional security, economic strength, and innovative technologies. This commitment was highlighted during discussions held alongside ASEAN-related ministerial meetings in Manila.
In these talks, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi emphasized their intent to maintain strong coordination on policies concerning North Korea. They aim to advance the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through continued dialogue and diplomacy, underpinned by a credible deterrent strategy.
The ministers also touched upon pressing regional and global security issues, focusing on developments in Northeast Asia and the Middle East. They expressed their unwavering support for principles such as freedom of navigation and overflight, adherence to international law, and reinforced maritime security throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
On the economic front, the three nations agreed to enhance cooperation in several key areas, including nuclear energy, critical minerals, and supply chain resilience. They also committed to collaborating on advanced technologies and tackling economic coercion. Additionally, they pledged to work together on disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and efforts to combat transnational crime.
