As global partnerships expand beyond traditional sectors, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are intensifying their collaborative efforts in a variety of new areas. This evolving relationship was highlighted during a meeting between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi, held at Cheong Wa Dae on Friday.
President Lee underscored the importance of a long-term partnership between the two nations, a goal set during his state visit to the UAE in November of the previous year. He expressed gratitude for the UAE’s prioritization of crude oil supplies to South Korea in March, a critical move that underscores the countries’ growing interdependence. Lee also pointed to the expansion of cooperation into sectors such as defense, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and culture as evidence of their deepening ties.
During the discussion, Lee emphasized the need for ongoing communication between officials from both countries to transform their cooperation into tangible projects. He advocated for strengthening coordination that is rooted in mutual trust, thereby paving the way for more comprehensive bilateral engagements.
Conveying greetings from UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Al Mubarak described South Korea as a close partner. He highlighted the broadening scope of collaboration, noting that it now includes investment, space, healthcare, and education, beyond the traditional realms of energy and infrastructure.
This diplomatic engagement comes amid expectations of further high-level talks, with a potential summit in South Korea next month. Such developments signal a commitment from both nations to fortify their partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation.
