Italy has issued a strong denunciation of Russia following a drone attack that reportedly struck a residential building in Romania, close to the Ukrainian border. This incident resulted in injuries to two civilians and has heightened concerns regarding security in the region.

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, labeled the attack as an extremely grave offense, highlighting that it took place within Romania’s borders—a nation that is part of both the European Union and NATO. Meloni emphasized that this event underscores the ongoing threat to civilians posed by the conflict and its potential to destabilize European security. She also conveyed her support for the Romanian government and those impacted by the strike.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Russia to seriously commit to achieving a fair and enduring peace, reiterating Italy’s solidarity with Romania. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto described the incident as an escalation that is both dangerous and reckless. Crosetto pointed out that the security of any NATO and European Union member is a collective concern for all allied nations.

The drone strike took place in the city of Galați, situated near the border with Ukraine. Romanian authorities have confirmed that two individuals sustained injuries when the drone impacted a residential structure. This development has amplified fears among European leaders about the possibility of the conflict extending beyond Ukraine’s borders, potentially affecting nearby countries.

Throughout ongoing tensions, NATO members have consistently reaffirmed their dedication to mutual defense and maintaining regional stability. The incident in Romania has served as a stark reminder of the fragile security situation in Eastern Europe and the need for continued vigilance among allied nations.
