South Korea’s women’s national football team has achieved its highest FIFA ranking in over three years, climbing to 17th place. This advancement follows the team’s commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.
The team’s recent success saw them rise two places in the rankings, a position they last held in June 2023. In the Asian context, South Korea is now ranked fourth, trailing behind Japan in fifth place, North Korea in 12th, and Australia in 15th. Meanwhile, China has dropped to 18th position.
The path to the bronze medal at the Asian Games involved overcoming a 2-0 loss to host nation Japan in the semifinals, followed by a crucial 1-0 victory over China in the third-place match. This victory was particularly significant as it marked South Korea’s first bronze medal at the Asian Games in eight years and their first win against China in 11 years.
Globally, Spain continues to hold the top spot in the FIFA women’s rankings, with the United States, Germany, England, and Japan rounding out the top five. The final FIFA women’s world rankings for the year are scheduled to be published on December 7, offering teams another opportunity to assess their standing on the international stage.
