During a meeting at the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his desire to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon, as he welcomed India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the latter’s two-day visit to Moscow. Putin expressed his intentions for a potential meeting with Modi during an upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation event. Additionally, the Russian leader is anticipated to be in New Delhi this September for the BRICS leaders’ summit.
Highlighting the strengthening economic ties between Moscow and New Delhi, Putin noted the increased trade between the two nations. He pointed out that Russia has been ramping up its fertiliser exports to India and is prepared to further expand these supplies. The focus on economic collaboration was a key point during the discussions between the two countries’ representatives.
Jaishankar also engaged in discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, where the emphasis was on enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Manturov mentioned the possibility of Russia localising nuclear fuel production in India, a move that could significantly bolster the economic relationship between the two countries.
In addition to his meeting with Putin, Jaishankar is scheduled to confer with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Their talks are expected to cover a range of topics, including bilateral relations and various regional and global issues. This visit underscores the ongoing diplomatic engagement between India and Russia amidst the evolving international landscape.
