South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has extended his support to three soldiers wounded in land mine explosions near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), emphasizing the significance of their recovery and ongoing military service. During a visit to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital in Seongnam, President Lee met with the injured soldiers and their families, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive medical care, rehabilitation, and future service support.
The soldiers sustained injuries on September 21 during a route-clearance operation south of the Military Demarcation Line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. The South Korean military attributes the explosions to North Korean mines, placed as part of their border fortification efforts. However, North Korea has dismissed these claims, leading South Korea to call for a thorough investigation and appropriate actions concerning the incident.
President Lee has directed officials to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the explosions and to evaluate suitable support and compensation measures for the affected service members. His visit highlights the government’s dedication to addressing the welfare of its military personnel and ensuring their well-being in the face of such incidents.
