In a recent statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that the substantial voter turnout in the nation’s parliamentary election signifies public endorsement of the government’s initiatives to bolster national security and its military operations in Ukraine. The election, which took place from September 18 to 20, recorded a turnout of 59.3%.

Putin emphasized that the results of the election reflect the Russian people’s support for the country’s current policies. He also addressed soldiers engaged in the military campaign in Ukraine, suggesting that the election outcome is a testament to public confidence in their efforts.

According to near-complete results, the ruling party, United Russia, secured more than 57% of the vote, translating to 355 of the 450 seats available in the State Duma. This gives United Russia nearly 80% control over the lower house of parliament. The election process, however, was conducted under stringent political controls, with numerous candidates opposing the war being excluded from the contest.
